Welcome to Knoxville’s G.O. — Girls Outside!  GO_LOGO_cropped

We look forward to hiking with you on the trail. You will learn many things about nature along the way all while enjoying the benefits of physical exercise and how to “leave no trace” on your environment. We hope you come to love the Great Outdoors as much as we do!

Mission Statement

G.O.’s mission is to provide opportunities for young girls to develop healthy and rewarding outdoor hobbies that will last a lifetime. Through programs that emphasize unplugging and having fun in nature with peers and women role models, G.O. is committed to helping young girls get outside — to learn about their environment and engage responsibly in activities that encourage independence and promote their physical, emotional and social well-being.

Finer Details

While the mission of Girls Outside is to enjoy nature, we also hope these outings foster independence and so we encourage parents to let their girls do the hike on their own as a part of the group. Hikes are usually no more than three miles and take place in and around Knoxville or Oak Ridge. Girls Outside promises to have four adult women hiking guides for each hike. The maximum number of girls we can take per hike is 12, and usually a minimum of six. See photos from our past hikes and events at our Flickr page!

Girl Scout Troops

Girls Outside can help you with your hiking badges with a visit to your troop to talk about hiking essentials and/or a pre-arranged hike with your troop. Troop hikes are separate events from Girls Outside hikes and are only open to troop members. If you are interested in having us visit your troop or helping lead a hike, please contact us.
