Beautiful Day for a Hike at Ijams

VP1VP6Finally! A taste of spring in East Tennessee. 1st-3rd girls enjoyed our first Girls Outside hike of the spring on Saturday, March 7, in the woods and along the river at Ijams Nature Center. We began the hike with a fun get-to-know-you game and a brief lesson on the seven Leave No Trace principles, which the girls received on plastic hang tags to take home. Trails were wet and muddy but the clear skies and sunshine buoyed spirits. Best finds of the afternoon: a large toad sun itself in a forest pond and a sleeping bat in one of the caves by the river. Four experienced women hikers accompanied the girls. We hiked about two miles in total before landing back at the Visitor Center with lots to tell parents and caregivers when we returned.
